Plan your holiday in Malawi with Nanan Travel

Malawi offers a quieter way to experience Africa. It combines freshwater beaches with small safari areas, all within a compact and easy-to-navigate country. The pace is slower, the settings are uncrowded, and the experience feels personal from start to finish.

Why Visit Malawi?

  • Clear, swimmable water along Lake Malawi
  • Small lodges with a high level of service
  • Safari areas without crowds
  • Easy combination of beach and safari in one trip
  • Straightforward logistics compared to larger countries

Best Things to Do in Malawi

  • Go on a safari in Liwonde National Park
  • Take a boat safari along the Shire River
  • Spend time on the beaches of Lake Malawi
  • Bird watching in Liwonde National park

When to Visit Malawi?

The best time to travel is during the dry season, from May to October. Wildlife viewing is more consistent, and the weather is mild. Conditions at the lake are also calm during this period.

The green season, from November to April, brings more rain and fewer visitors. Some areas may be harder to access.

Lake Malawi

Lake Malawi is the centre of most journeys. The water is calm and clear, with long stretches of quiet shoreline. Lodges are set directly on the beach, offering easy access to the lake and a relaxed pace throughout your stay.

Likoma Island

Likoma Island sits within the lake and is one of the most refined areas to stay. It offers privacy, well-run lodges, and a slower rhythm. It works well for couples or as the final part of a longer itinerary.

Liwonde National Park

Liwonde National Park is one of the main safari areas in Malawi. It is known for elephants, hippos, and river-based wildlife viewing along the Shire River. The park is accessible and easy to combine with the lake.

Majete Wildlife Reserve

Majete Wildlife Reserve offers a more structured safari setting. Wildlife populations are well managed, and the reserve supports a range of species including the Big Five. Lodges here are small and focused on a private experience.

How to Plan Your Malawi Trip

Malawi is straightforward to plan with the right structure. Transfers between the lake and safari areas need to be timed correctly, and lodge selection plays an important role in the overall experience.

I plan each trip based on first-hand experience, selecting the right combination of locations and ensuring travel between them runs smoothly.
